It started as a love letter to our kids.
We wanted to write a Hanukkah story with our children at the heart of it. We tried using AI, putting their faces into scenes with Judah Maccabee. The results were ridiculous, but they made us laugh. Then we read the story to them and realized we’d stumbled onto something. The story became theirs the moment they stepped inside it.
We want to create books that are genuine invitations: books that let kids see themselves in Jewish history, feel connected to something larger, and trust them with the complexities that can strengthen their identities.
That love letter became Doorway Books: beautifully told, beautifully illustrated customizable books where children don’t just read about Jewish history — they walk right into it.
Why “Doorway”?
A doorway is a threshold where you step from the everyday into something more magical. We want every book we create to be a doorway, a portal our children could walk through into a heritage that belongs to them.
In Hebrew, “dor” (דור) means generation. These stories are how we connect דור לדור, generation to generation. We’re adding to the library that was passed down to us by building something beautiful to pass down to our children.
